How to increase your typing speed (English and Hindi)
Home row, accuracy first, a 20-minute daily plan, and what speed typing tests usually ask for.

Fast typing is mostly not looking at the keyboard and not making mistakes. Speed follows on its own after two or three weeks of regular, correct practice.
How speed is measured
Typing tests count one "word" as 5 characters (spaces included). Words per minute (WPM) = characters typed ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. Many tests subtract mistakes, so 40 WPM with 98% accuracy beats 55 WPM with errors.
The basics
- Sit straight, feet flat, wrists floating just above the keyboard.
- Rest your fingers on the home row: A S D F for the left hand, J K L ; for the right. The small bumps on F and J let you find them without looking.
- Each finger owns its keys. Use the thumb only for the space bar.
A 20-minute daily plan
- 5 minutes — home-row and key drills, slowly, eyes on the screen.
- 10 minutes — real paragraphs. Stop and correct when accuracy drops below 95%.
- 5 minutes — one timed test; write down WPM and accuracy to see progress.
Hindi typing
Government typing tests in Hindi usually use either the Inscript layout or the Remington (Kruti Dev style) layout — check which one your exam allows and practise only that one. Hindi speeds are usually counted a little lower than English.
Exam targets
Many clerical tests ask for around 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi; always confirm the current notice for your exam.

- 5 मिनट होम-रो अभ्यास (A S D F, J K L ;)।
